Info on Golf GPS Units

As there are many golf GPS units on the market today, how do you know which one is right for you and is at the best price? In this article we will review features found on the majority of golf GPS units. We will discuss such topics ease of use, the overall cost to buy and then to use on a yearly basis per unit as well as some of the accessories that should accompany your GPS unit.

Many of the golf GPS units have automatic course recognition when you power the unit on. What does this fancy term mean? It simply means that when you pull up to the first tee box and power up your unit; the unit will recognize the golf course that you are getting ready to play and provide you with the proper information.

Many of the golf GPS units are very simple to use. You simply locate yourself from where you would like a yardage and the GPS technology in the unit will give you the proper yardage to the front middle and to the back of the green. Many of the golf GPS units have a digital readout on a large show that will fit into your pocket or easily attach to your golf bag for simple access.

The cost of the golf GPS units will vary depending on the features on the unit. The pricing of golf GPS units start around $175 and can reach as much as $500. Keep in mind that rarely does the fun end there as many units have a yearly usage fee to access the golf courses. This fee again varies and some companies will give you a price break for purchasing multiple years up front. Be sure to inquire about if the service is not renewed, how many courses will stay on my unit? This is vital as some units will leave up to ten golf courses on your unit and some others will wipe all of them out of your unit.

Most of the golf GPS units come with a rechargeable lithium battery that will hold a charge for 12 hours at a time as well as a belt clip, USB cable, setup disc, & wall charger. So even on the monster 36-hole golf days, your GPS unit will be there for you through both rounds of golf. The last thing that that you want to have happen to your GPS unit during your round is to have your battery run out of juice on you. That will ruin your experience at any golf course.

In this article we have given you an overview of what you should expect when purchasing of a golf GPS unit. We discussed the ease of use, the overall cost to use the unit per year and some of the accessories that should accompany your GPS unit. A GPS unit will allow you to improve your golf game as you will always have the right yardage off of the tee or into the green. In addition, you will become more precise with your wedges as you will always have the exact number to the front center and back of the green.

I have the Legend HCx and am having difficulty with it. I am new at geocaching and the user manual is not fantastic. Do you follow the pink line to the cache or do you use the compass, b/c the compass takes me in completely different direction. Went with other cachers yesterday, using the older model legend b/w and found 3 caches in 20 mins where with HCx I have searched 4 times for same cache with no success…any help would be appreciated.
